Exchanges Announce Spot Trading for Ethereum’s Much-Awaited Optimism (OP); Airdrop Underway

Ethereum layer 2 network scaling solution Optimism is live on centralized exchanges under ticker OP, with the initial airdrop reportedly underway.

On May 31, exchanges like OKX, BYBIT, MEXC Global, KuCoin, and AAX announced the deposit and withdrawal services for OP and the trading pairs for the token. And as part of the new crypto launch practice, the community also has an option to claim an airdrop of the token. However, the official Optimism handle is yet to release details around that.

Meanwhile, crypto influencer OlimpioCrypto shared airdrop claim pages and delegates model in a Twitter thread earlier today, alerting investors that liquidity is important during a volatile market.

Therefore, Olimpio also underlined that users need to check pools with the deepest liquidity while making transfers for the new token.

That said, soon after the launch, OP USD trading pair was hovering close to $1.5.

Optimism’s democratic governance

The Optimism token was first announced back in April with the launch of the Optimism Collective. It was unveiled as “a new model of digital democratic governance optimized to drive rapid and sustained growth of a decentralized ecosystem,” to “dispel the myth that public goods cannot be profitable.”

Optimism token is the lifeblood of the Token House under the Collective, which also includes the Citizens’ House.

While details of further airdrops are awaited, the OP ecosystem has a piece of governance advice to users claiming airdrops. It notes, “we will strongly encourage people claiming OP in Airdrop #1 (and future Airdrops) to delegate the voting power of their tokens to a community member who has explicitly volunteered to play an active role in Token House governance.”

Recently, the Ethereum scaling solution had stated that it removed 17,000 addresses that were found to be conducting airdrop farming.
